The site
The Surbiton Station site is c.2.5 acres and includes:
- The northern station approach, cycle parking and taxi drop off;
- The station platforms and footbridge; and
- The southern ticket hall, station approach, cycle parking and surface car park.
The northern part faces onto Surbiton’s high street, Victoria Road, whilst the southern part of the site is bounded by Glenbuck Road.
Surbiton Station is the eighth busiest station on Network Rail’s Wessex route with nearly 9.5 million passengers passing through it during 2019-2020.
It is also a striking example of modernist architecture, with the art-deco style ticket hall and clock tower, designed by Scottish architect James Robb Scott, becoming synonymous with the town during the twentieth century.
This will be a sensitive regeneration that retains and enhances the station’s art deco façade, ensuring the architecture remains a famous local landmark for many generations to come.
Network Rail is the freehold owner of the overall station site, with areas leased to South Western Railway, the train operating company who manage the station.
